Just a quick warning, I had a hitec HS50 tail servo fall apart in flight today, the top of the servo fell off as its only pushed on and held with some small plastic pins, its not glued or anything, all the gears fell out somewhere in the field... The T-rex spun like a spinning top in the air, quite cool really if you could see it, luckily the model was level so I just climbed up high and hit throttle hold and it slowed considerably and came down , still spinning but landed fine, with a little bump to my surprise, more luck than anything, ground was soft which helped the landing.

I am thinking of putting an HS56 or something else ? Anyone know a good fast micro tail servo that won't fall apart in flight?

I don't trust servos that are press fit together. That's why I won't fly those hitecs. The Futaba s3107's are nice and held together by 2 screws. Who thought press fitting would be a good idea?

I have tried a 3107 on the tail, it was not very good to be honest. Seems like its to slow, could not get the tail to hold during climb outs ect..? I have hs56's on everything else, maybe I will put one on the tail. The HS50 worked great, but I can't go through that spinning lark again. Next time I will be sweeping up the bits. I think the gods were on my side today, thought my new carbons were a gonna.

I was having wagging/hunting problems with the HS50, replaced with a HS56B and now the tail is ROCK SOLID! Maybe I got a bad one as i know alot of people use the HS50. But I am sold on the HS56B's for everything.

The Futabas aren't the best speed wise but they will hold the tail just fine under all conditions if it's set up properly. A couple hundrenth of a second are important but it won't keep it from flying well. Your servo falling apart in flight will Try the 56's...you'll probably like them, you never know until you try.

After I read the article about removing the slop from the HS-50 and saw what held it together , mine got a mini wire tie around it.

With my luck, if I know about it, it will happen. I should quit reading all of this info huh?

Problem then comes when you need to replace striped gears if you use CA. Just a personal thing I would not

I just had a similar incident...

however mine was caused by the gears on the HS 50 stripping at a very inopportune time rather than the servo actually coming apart. Just started puttingher back together today with the replacement parts. I'm pulling the HS-55's and the HS-50 off the tail and replacing all with HS-56HB's.

---On a side note if anyone would like to buy my servos shoot me an email. the HS-55's are fine but the HS-50 is stripped (can replace the gears). They'll pretty much be tossed out otherwise.

Mine came apart over the weekend....

Had the same problem but unfortunately, it got tipped a bit and I couldn't get it level before it landed. Not too much damage. If I would have known, I would have done something to keep the servo together better....
Where is the article located for taking slop out of the HS50. I searched once but couldn't find it.
Thanks, Dave.
