We invite you all to the ...
6th Annual Los Angeles Labor Day Weekend 3-D Classic
September 2nd - 4th, 2005.

This year is going to be a large event, including lots of:

Open Flying
Special Contests
Demonstrations
Night Flying
Raffle
Helicopter Vendors
Food, Drinks, and Camping.

The event will be located as always at the Apollo XI field off Woodley Ave, south of Victory Blvd in Van Nuys, CA, and is hosted by the Valley Flyers (click here for field information)

I am starting to organize the event early this year, so we can expect a large turnout for pilots and vendors. If anybody has any suggestions for this years fun fly, or would like to help out in some capacity. Please PM me.
More information, flyers, posters and registration information will be posted as soon as available.

Hope to see you there,

Sincerely,

Christian Stoehr

Hotel Information
I just finished negotiating with the Best Western Carriage Inn in Sherman Oaks that we use every year. Our group rate for the weekend is $85 +tax (per night), which is pretty good for Labor Day weekend. This rate is only good if you book before August 17th.

You need to call the reservation line at (877) 787-2300 or if you are from out of the country you can e-mail them at carriageinnbwci@aol.com.
Please refer to "LA 3D Classics" when you ask for our rate.

Pre Registration Form
Here is the Pre Registration form for all of you. If you have problems opening or printing it, let me know. We are planning on having a lot of events this year, including full heli flyins, and other entertainment. I will keep you all updated as to how those are coming along, but it should be the biggest one yet. So make sure you don`t miss out.

Sorry for the delay guys, you`ll get all the info soon, I just want to work out the detail so I have all the answers for you. Its been a bit busy and I have to run some more items by the club before I can make the final desissions. There will be t-shirts and an early registration form available. I just got part of the artwork in yesterday.

Let me know what kind of contest and activities you are all interested in, so we can plan it the right way. Now is the time to leave requests.

Sincerely,
Christian Stoehr

The Fun-fly Pre-Registration will be available soon.
I am currently talking to Pro Pilots about putting together a 3D Clinic and Q&A event, so please let me know if you are interested in participating, or you are a qualified pilot javascript:smilie('')

Also we are trying to setup something for scale heli`s, so I need to know how many of you are planning on bringing your scales. We might set up a blue screen and take pictures of your bird while flying, and then composite it into the appropriate background scenery for judges to evaluate. But we need participants to make it worth while.

If anyone had problems with the Best Western booking, they are adding our specialLabor Day rate to their system tomorrow 7/16/05, so you will be able to book and they will know who you are.
I didn`t know it takes them that long.

Let us know if you are making it out.

I'd like to suggest a 3D demo contest for the intermediate pilots along with/or instead of the auto contest. I heard a few years back that they had an intermediate demo and each guy would get a resident pro to go out and spot for him. I think that would be a lot of fun. Anyone else agree or have another idea for the intermediates??

Looking forward to the event....

Dave

The intermediate 3-D contest a couple of years ago was a lot of fun. I think we billed it as a non-sponsored 3-D demo and it was held Sunday late morning just before the raffle.
The only other time we closed the field to open flying was for Saturday, noon time demos, and I think maximizing open flying is the right thing to do.
Last year, Mike put together an electric micro heli drag race that was great fun, and we did this on just a small portion of the infield. Hey Mike, would you want to organize this again this year?

Hey Dave, I set that up at the Hirobo Cup that year. I think your right on track many people walked away from that with smiles. I've been working with Chris coordinating and planning this coming event. That intermediate event was a purely on the fly planned thing that really worked out great. This year we have been able to plan and arrange some very new ideas with some deep-rooted retro activities. The event will be more fun than anyone person can take. We are making every effort to put the FUN back in fun fly. The Micro drag race was really cute. Props to Mike Trudell for that one. I competed in that event and had a great time doing it. Well this year it's my turn to step it up a notch or two maybe three. For all you micro electric guys there is something especially for your little birds. Allot of production is going into these events that will really make them special and very different. Don't think we are cutting back on the big dogs though. We are planning events that maybe the most fun anyone has ever had with a helicopter. Plus participation will be rewarded. The events will be announced anytime now. Plan on night flying, plan on going fast, plan on doing things you never thought of before. Most of all plan on having the best time you have ever had at a fun fly. Is this going to have events for everyone? Yes. The fresh blooded pilots? Yes. The seasoned pilots? Yes. The Hottest red-blooded biggest ball bearinged pilots around? Yes.

I promise you this, excluding the best factory demos you have ever seen the flight line will not be closed for any of the competition events. You also can count on seeing aircraft you have never seen before.

You can count on questions answered you have always wondered. Will you be board? If you try. Well if you try really hard: actually maybe but not likely even at that point. If you would like to be envolved in running the event PM or e-mail myself Eric Pacheco at aheadhelicopter@msn.com or
Christian Stoehr at christian@newimaging.com

Well that's all I think I can say without giving it away. By the way I am very excited today I just recieved twins.

This event keeps getting better each year. Although still a month or so away, can you update this thread if/when the factory demo flights will take place? Something like a schedule of who and what date/time. This would be helpful for those that can only make the event for a day.

Thanks!

Newimaging,

Looks fun! I will try and get all the San Diego pilots to travel up north to your event. Contact me via PM and we can hand out your flyer at our event.

Any of you LA Pilots gonna make it to our "Helis Buzzin the Border" Fun Fly in Sunny San Diego on July 29-31?

Special thanks to Dave (tailrotordave) we now have a live band that is playing on Saturday night before the night fly, so you can all stick around and have a nice dinner and some entertainment.
