My Posts This: Topic Forum | The key to setting up the 401 is to realize that you MUST power it up in HH mode. All the time. No ifs, ands, or buts. Failure to do so will create all sorts of setup and operational problems. You also need to let the heli sit still after you apply power, until the gyro figures out what neutral is. Takes about three seconds.
Also, set up the mechanical linkages with the gyro in place -- but set to NORMAL mode -- so that you have all the arms and bellcranks in the middle of their travel at neutral stick. After you get the linkages and stuff properly set up, you then adjust the travel limit pot on your gyro to limit the throw so you don't bind the tail rotor system. You're still in NORMAL mode at this point.
Once you do this, then you can go about setting up your selection of normal and HH, and the gains you need.
But remember -- no matter what you do -- you MUST power the 401 up in HH mode.
Also, if this is your first HH gyro, you should know that when you are in HH mode, the gyro won't necessarily return the servo to neutral if you are sitting on your workbench and move the rudder stick, then let go of it.
Don't forget to check the direction of the TR and the gyro correction before you go fly the first time. In HH mode you DON'T mess with the rudder trim tab on the TX to adjust TR drift in HH mode. You adjust the mechanics.
You also don't add in any revolution mixing from the TX in HH mode.
