My Posts This: Topic Forum | Chipawa fourHi, Has anyone ever flown a chipawa four autogyro. I built one about 15 to 20 years ago, it is a .60 size bird, it has a underslung rotor head (some what like a benson). It has one control on the rotor head that allows you to tilt it back, it has a stop that prevents you from tilting it forward. It is a fairly large bird. The rotor diameter is 56in and the rotor blade cord is 4in. The fusealage has tricycle landing gear. and a large horz. stablizer about 3/4 of the way back with two control,s that could be used for elvator or elevons. It also has a single vert. stab. and rudder. I had two short flights with it- the first attempt it took off in about 50 feet and flew straight ahead about 100 ft then the engine quit and it autorotated down to tall grass (no damnage). The second flight it went airborn in about the same distance, at about 100ft alttude I turned left to do a circut ( it flew great)It flew like it was on rails, I contuned the circut and reduced the throttle as it was comeing up to me. as it passed me comeing into land I put in some back control on the head (that is when all hell broke loose) I think the autogyro was in every possable position, it was even inverted before it crashed. It was damaged somewhat but i repaired it and i have not bein able get it to fly since. |
