Jarod,

My parts came in the mail today from GoBrushless. I made up a 11T Double-whopper Delta wind and it ran great. No load current was 1.44amps and Kv is about 2060.

Looking forward to more info. from you later. Will be good to compare specs and see where we are.

Thanks for what you are doing.

Worked hard tongiht. Things arent finished yet. The specs on the motor is 22.7mm double stator with 12 turns, 12 mags and delta wired 26 gauge. Will have it on the power anaylazer as soon as its complete. Got distracted with to many beers and not enough buidling. Thats what happens when you have your friends help.

I used 26 AWG two strands. No cheese! I think it fits better w/ no chesse. Will have to put it in a heli and try it out.

I removed the cheese by grinding the white insulation off. I took a Dremel w/ drum sander and ground down to the metal on one side. I did that on both halves and then stuck them on the bearing holder. Came down to 10mm thick.

Jarod,

I thought the motor was 11 turns. Have you changed that a little?

Look forward to hearing your reports on the motor.

Jarod,

Just a little info on the delta parallel cd-rom motors. A highly skill genius friend of mine set out to make a killer brushless for the shogun (I know eeeeek you guys dont like us but what I am saying is good), He new that makeing an outrunner with 12 magnets the RPMS/KV's are going to be lower but the torque will be nuts although not always a good thing in helis. Well he did his delta parallel (new wire each stator) and low KV but massive torque. The motor is almost too much for the shogun the power is insane and the motor runs extremely cool on 3 cells. Point being I think it can be done and with a machine like Jarod testing these things out you can expect a motor like non other. Hope it works out and you guys get everything going whats the update on the CF frames?

Or you could go to 6 magnets. For higher KV

heli_guy,
Could you elaborate a little on the specs of your friends motor? How many turns of what guage wire? How do you connect the 9 poles for a parallel delta wind? Lastly, what is the KV rating and how many amps drawn at hover?

Thanks for your contributions. The internet makes this hobby sooooo much more enjoyable and educational!

Regards,
Anthony

Oooops Jarod, to me this sounds too close to my speedwing motor with gazzzzillions of rpm but no thrust! Makes my little wing go over 70mph at 10A!!!

Be careful when testing this beast.

First motor was a going to be a 12 turn, but it was decided to make it 11 turns. Everything is taking longer then it was supposed to. Im leaving here in a few min to go work on installing everything. Yesterday we made the swash plate bracket and converted it to 120" ccpm. Also made a few CF main shafts that weigh 10 grams less then a steel one, and the stabililizer braket for the swash. The motor was finally finished last night. Today everything will be mounted and I will have finished pictures tonight if all goes as planned.

Here is the ccpm swash we made, carbon fiber main shaft, and stablilizer bracket. Bracket isnt finished yet and the swash needs to have the screw ends dremeled off so the swash can rotate freely.

Jarod,

Keep up the great work. I have a question. I am going to machine a
ring for the swash to convert it to CCPM, but I wasn't sure what tap
to use for the existing screws. I could probably do a little research, but
since you have already done that, can you tell me what tap you used
for the screws for the balls on your adapter?

Thanks,

Oz

CF Main Shaft

Jarod,
Is the CF main shaft rod or tube? where do you source it from?

Also, I orderd a replacement shaft from Modefo's and it was hollow?
4 grams lighter than the stock one. anyone heard of align shipping these new shafts?
Thanks again for posting.

We used a drill bit of slightly smaller diameter then the screws to drill the holes in the alluminum ring. Then use the screws themsleves to tap the hole.

Well thats funny because it was both. Used a Carbon tube of the same diameter as the main shaft. Then we used rod to fill in the tube. Wick the rod with CA then very quickly insert it into the tube. Now you have CF rods of the same diameter of the main shaft. Ikarus sells CF rods and tubes, CF sheets. You also asked about hollow main shafts from Align. I have never seen a main shaft from Align that wasnt hollow? The main shaft weighs 13.3 grams, the CF main shaft weighs 3.3 grams.

main shaft

thanks for the response..

My original main shaft is solid steel, it weighs 17grams.
It was one of the very first trex's the ones without the gyro mount in the frame.

main shaft again...

FYI
another source for the cf tube to use as a main shaft is a GWS or century fixed pitch tail boom, they are .196 CF tube, the exact same as the steel shafts and probably easily available.

Motor Wind

Hey Jarod and all.

I have been following this thread for a bit and very interested in winding a new motor for the TRex. I acquired a motor wound by a company called AZMotorwerkes that uses 20Turns of 25G wire wound in Delta Parallel. It looks a lot like the motor Jarod showed in Eddie's Helicopter. Anyway,i t really turns well and the amps are low. I use a CC10 in it with the 315 Blades on 10T pinion. Head speed is around 2400 RPM and the Rex really flies well.

Workmanship on this motor is awsome and could be called a "work of art". It uses custom machined components, not the GoBrushless stuff, and is handmade. price was reasonable too.

As soon as I figure out a way to post Pictures, I will have them up. I am writing a Homepage now so soon I will have information there too.

Sorry for hijacking the thread Jarod.

BJ.

I use Aligns 25A ESC, works well!

Rastaman,

Nope. Doesn't heat up much more than usual. The trick is in letting the motor do its thing and not try to use to high a gear ratio. I get about 15 minutes with my 1320 3S pack. Am going to see how it runs on 2S as as soon as i get a 2S pack.
