Nice pics and a good idea about using the brass strip.

How is your TREX flying with the PG-03 gyro?

I have been following this thread for a couple of weeks and have the motor parts to build now, just trying to get a good price on kit.

The PG-03 would make it alot easier to enter this chopper for me. I know HH is the thing, but I have a PG in current stock.

hotairflyer ..

The pg-03 gyro works fine for me. I'm doing alot of hovering and learing to fly. I'm used to a 'rate' gyro as i picked up alotof my hovering skills on a piccolo (with a picoboard). Rex fly's fine. I wouldn't be doing and backwards FFF (fast forward flight( with it, but of your that advances with your skills the pg-03 would be holding you back.

With a rate gyro you need to do more corrections for the tail. The HH gyro hold a heading you've selected.

After you master the heli with a rate gyro , a HH gyro will be a walk in the park.

I'll post a template for the strip later. Daughter needs bath right now

ok, I r, stumped, measured the current draw at 5/8 stick which is slightly higher than hover, 6.5 amps, if i move the throttle a little either side of this its +/-.5 amp,.. max amp draw i saw at full stick was 9.5,.. why am i getting 6.5 min,.. must be battery capacity. 1570mah at 85% discharge is 1334mah, /7000mah draw = .19hour or 11.4 min almost 5 min more than i am getting now,.. I am trying a pac cycle at 250mah charge, and i will play with pitch and throttle to achieve the least current draw. Then I am winding one of these gbx's

Just picked up a 20T and 24T pinion. At full throttle and positive pitch I'm pullling 6.8A with the 24T, I haven't tested the 20T yet...I don't know what the head speed is yet because I haven't taken it outside...and checking the head speed is a 2 handed job so I'm waiting for some one to help me or to call an ambulance just in case

Calculations show a head speed of 2720...I'm sure this is quite high...probably more around 2200 or so...with the paddles alone is was spinning ~2400 so I think I'm getting in the right ball park I think I'll run the head speed around 2000 or 1800 for my first couple of flights...at least I have head room!

I'm still need to pickup a gyro and then I'll be ready to go! Just picked up my battery today got a 1500 Kokam pack, it's a little on the piggish side, 116g. Still need to do the eCCPM thingy...I have most of the parts but need some more ball links. I start my new job tomorrow so I won't have much time to play

Dongle - you should make lots of those little sleaves and sell them dirt cheap! Great looking motor too!

Here is the email from castle about the BEC on a CC10. I was wrong but in a good way. This is good news for everyone.

Hi Jarod,

It is a 3A BEC - we have yet to correct the manual :-(

Thanks

Hello,
I was wondering if you could tell me the BEC rating on your new CC10. The manual says 1.5 amps. Someone posted in a bulletin board from your company that its 3.0 amps. This is a bit confusing. Thank you for answering my question. Sincerely, Jarod

Is there any way of determining the size of the bec ?

Am i in luck ?

I compared the photo's to a ph25 esc i have. The part in the upper left and right sides of the board (first pic) Has 2 compared to my ph 25 with only one. (L53B)

Email shawnp@castlecreations.com and ask him. I would even attach a pic like the one you took. Im sure they can determine what version you have or at liest tell you how to determine the bec chip.

That's got to be it.

2 in parallel make 3amps. ph25 has only one of these parts. I bought mine from dragonfly in the summer. He goes thorough alot of them. I'd say the stock is up to date as there out quite frequently.

Now i need magnets !! and a way to mount it.

About the motor..

I posted earlier about using a 1/8" drill blank for a shaft (perfect fit for pinion) then drilling the endbell out to fit . Any idea how much smaller to drill the hole to retain the pressure fit ? Bearings shouldn't be too hard to find. Off the top of my head i'd say an associated truck bearing, majority are flanged whick could work out nice.

Or would it be far easier to get a 2.3 pinion and drill it out to fit ?

For those of you interested in the swash plate adapter for 120 take-off's. I've taken a pic of my first attempt.

Note : The hole on the far right is 1/2 a hole to wide. Tighten it up a bit for better fit. The black hole is the right hole for 120deg. Measure off the other side for the second ball. (taken from end to take-off)

Hope this helps.

I've been watching this thread for a while. Thanks Jarod. I'm ready to purchase a trex. I've already got a gy 240 gyro and tp 1320 3s batt. I still need to get brushless setup. I'm not sure if i want to wind my own motor yet. I'm an experienced 3d heli pilot, but haven't had good luck with my hornet.
What off the shelf motor and controller would you recomend? Once i get it setup with ccpm and flying right I will try one of the diy cd rom motors.

thanks, and great thread!!!

rcmarty,
1/8 drill shaft may work but I believe you will beat yourself up when it comes to the bearings, check bocabearing.com.
I would buy a 3mm shaft thats got the end turned down to 2.3 or 2mm from
www.aircraft-world.com and if you still want to use 1/8 pinions just buy the reducers here

Dont hold me to this reccomendation. I havent used one myself but have heard positive things about this motor. Weight is key if your heli is tipping 500+ grams this motor may not be enough for 3D. Maybe someone reading this has tried this motor on the same setup?

With all the interest in the ruler , i may have to talk it over with my daughter. Can't promise anything as she's only 4. She may consider a trade for a nice teddy bear or a barbie.

My trex gbx motor

Well after many hours and reading under the r/c groups discussion fourms I came up with this motor. It’s my first.

It is a GBX 2.5 stators (2 stators plus an extra 7or so -didn't count- laminates added on)
*12T Double wrap of 26g wire
*GB alum motor mount
*GWS long shaft i cutt off the threads, pressed in the non threaded side of the shaft, then ground down the knurling so the gb mount would fit on.
i also spun the shaft in the dremel and used sandpaper to ease the pressing
*Delta wiring

as you can see with the added laminates the stator is a true 10mm to match the magnets-(i read it somewhere on the 40 pages on this topic)
It wasn’t to hard to pack those 24 wires on each pole (I wrapped 2 at a time)
I Am hoping to get a whole lot of power out of this motor.
Once I get new blades for my trex I will see how it fly’s.

as you can see i had a hard time on this pole where the insulation is worn off from using my brass buffing wheel. Close but it isn't shorting or toching the magnets

i first used thin CA to tack the magnets down the spred quick jb-weld (5 min)

csm hlg200 gyro

Jarod and all...Its a little off topic but since the csm gyros are mentioned in this setup.....
I picked up a csm hlg200 lightened gyro and is it just me or is this thing junk? I pulled my 401 and plugged in the csm with zero other changes and the tail wags BAD. I turn down the gain more and more and so much to stop the wag the tail wont hold at all!!! I read a few posts on the OTHER site and I see many reports of the same thing. I wonder if I could send it back? Anyone have any ideas on a good, light gyro that works as good as the futabas? I hope I didnt just throw away 90 bucks!!!

One thing with CSM gyros is that you need to read the manual from first page to last page and follow it to the letter. If so you'll have no problem setting it up.

But afterwards if you are still not satisfied you can always maybe exchange it for a micro CSM 560 or 420 (same as 560 just no PC hookup and less expensive). These are one of the best gyros you can find (better than 401 in my and many other's experience) and only weighs 11g-s!

gyro

Are either of you actually using one of these csm gyros on a trex????
The vendor will not exchange but did offer a substantial discount on another gyro, maybe a futaba or the csm SL420, I am concerned I will have the same issue with the sl420. Any comments???thanks
