I used medium CA on my muffler. Just screw in the screw and fuel nipple until they're most of the way on, and then add a drop or two of CA and screw them the rest of the way in.

For the gasket, I used a piece of manilla folder (have any of those?) which I cut to the right size with a sharp knife. No need for special gaskets. Just make sure you tighten the muffler real good. After a while, you may want to buy some longer muffler mounting bolts so that you can add some nuts on the other end. My muffler screw holes eventually stripped. And check the muffler for tightness once in a while--it comes off sometimes.

Thanks NewHeli. Do you mean just a piece of yellow manila paper like those large mailing envelopes are made from? Or should it be thicker....like a file divider?

Also, do you think RED loctite would work in place of the CA?

Again..thanks

I say don't use thread lock on your muffler/pipe bolts/threads, because sooner or later you will/can strip the threads,,, you will not strip the threads as you remove your screws, you will strip the threads as you try the replace a screw when rebuilding~~ as you re-screw the screw in it tries to push out the locktite, the locktite builds up in front of the screw and the screw get's so much pressure on them the threads strips.

I'm sure it would work, but if you have a bottle of CA sitting around why not use it. It doesn't need to ever come off--and it won't with CA.

Yes, use something thicker like a file FOLDER (I don't know what you mean by a divider ). And while you're cutting yourself some gaskets, make some extras too.

OKAY...I just screwed the muffler into the engine using the two 3 X 30 socket head screws. To my delight...the entire assembly slides right back out of the engine. Those two screws don't grab on to the engine.

Should I go to the local hardware store, purchase two slightly longer bolts than what was supplied, and secure them with nuts at the other end????

thanks

Greg

Gregg,

The screws should be inserted thru the engine into the muffler.

Oh My God. Do I feel like an idiot. I hope I didn't damage anything. Hopefully I didn't damage the holes in the muffler so I can put the bolts in from the opposite side.

Thanks Guys.

>slightly longer bolts... secure them with nuts

That's what I did... and I used nyloc nuts.

I've been using it this way for about a year and it stays put. I use blue threadlock, but I don't think I need to.

It's a triple lock:
1 The screw... tight,
2 With a nut on the end serving as a conventional locknut,
3 And that nut is a nyloc nut...

YMMV, but I like how it's working for me.

Bit of a pain to put the nuts on (if you do), but they haven't come off!

I used high temp silicon (red stuff) as both a muffler gasket and to hold the screws in.

In the instructions it says to put some JB Weld on the outside of the lock ring of the tail pitch plate assembly. I looked at mine and it doesn't have any. After worrying about this for the last week I did a search here. Found out that the kit has been updated and now has a little groove into which the lock ring fits. No need for JB Weld.

How in the world would I have built my Hawk Sport without RunRyder without injuring myself or others.

Its amazing how well that muffler secures in place when the screws go in from the right side.

Help Again !

Can anyone tell me how to install the on/off switch into the servo frame assembly.? There is a cut-out made for a switch in the plastic....but the switch will not fit in from any direction. Do I remove the two small screws on the switch faceplate and install that way?

Also, does the gyro just lay on the bottom of the assembly, and is that small piece of double sided tape included enough to do the job.

THANKS

Greg

Never mind the switch question. I got brave and took the faceplate off. I was just afraid that if I was wrong...springs and things would go flying everywhere.

PS; Just got the gyro installed also.

See the switch? You take the faceplate of, put the switch behind the frames, put the faceplate back on the other side of the frames, and then put the screws back in (you essentially have a clamp). Gyro gets mounted right below that, you can sort of see it in the picture, also.

Yup, as folks said, you have to take the switch "apart" but it is meant to do that. As far as getting the on/off switch back on correctly, it depends upon the manufacturer. On my Futaba switches on/off are on the faceplate and on the underneath part but on my airtronics switches they are only on the faceplate. Check the switch before you take it apart, you 'should' see that the side of the switch with the two wires coming out (battery connector and charge jack) are on the off side and the side with one wire comming out (to connect to the Rx) is the on side. At least that how it is set up on my Airtronics switch. Don't know if that is universal but it makes sense to me if you think of it from the perspective of "on" lets current flow from the battery to the Rx, "off" doesn't let it flow but lets current flow from the charger to the battery.
