The more the merrier. The so-called clones have done great things for the micro FP heli's. They get better every day both in quality and in price. Competition is a good thing.

Yet our H2 is stuck with parts prices that are outrageous. Upgrades are produced on such a small scale that they can not be made cost effectively. But I would rather support a craftsman and innovator than get ripped for $35 bucks because MS built a faulty plasic part that breaks (e.g. bell-hiller). These things are priced at what the market will bear.

It isn't like these are terribly innovative designs, the larger versions have been around for decades. The physics and systems are well known proven designs. It is the power systems and battery technology that have let us fly small overpowered ships.

If the clone is better I'll buy one in a second. Heaven knows I've paid MS enough already. The reality is this is an idea whose time has come. Most of the clones now offer CP it's only logical that they try and produce something with more performance. Even the hummingbird is coming out with a dedicated 3D model.

If it performs. Bring it!

Mike

Post sites on where to get the clones and parts. I could care less if they ripped off MS, MS has been gouging us for way too long...

Maybe they'll start making weighted clone blades too, one can only hope!

I think the non weighted blades at jethobby may be clones: http://www.jethobby.com.sg/cgi-bin/...209&cid=5&idx=1

Sure enough, jethobby has the FP 'clone' H2: http://www.jethobby.com.sg/cgi-bin/...226&cid=5&idx=1
Outside of the head, looks like the subframe/bows are a little different. Maybe not completely parts compatible below the head. Nasty canopy too!

Next, they need to do the CP stuff...

Very cool. Lotsa things to like about that one, comes with TB servo mount, vert fin holder, duzi like servo mounts, looks like tail blades are longer too.

I only feel bad that they ripped off the Duzi stuff...

Is the 'Dragonfly' a GWS model name?

Here's another LHS in Singapore where you can get the CP Dragonfly 22D:

http://www.championhobby.com/Pictur...PM Heli 1&2.htm

I am looking forward for the parts basically especially the conical and bevel gears as well as other plastic parts like frame and the CF boom!

Looking forward to any reviews for the heli. Interesting to see how it stacks up in terms of build and performance.

Buying aftermarket cheaper parts is not so bad.

It's just outright dishonest to make a complete copy of the H2.

It's beyond my means to stop you from supporting a dishonest act. The money is yours to spend.

But at least I made my point of being a righteous consumer.

What do you think they are making aftermarket parts for? It's for their helicopters. And just conveniently they'll probably work with the MS ones.

Buy the clones instead, force MS to quit screwing their longtime customers...

I got an email from rc-expert:
Parts will be available in 2 weeks.
Kits without gyro/tx/receiver built with servos $120 + $20 shipping.

Sounds like a bargain to me. If I didn't have 2 already, I'd be getting another. Heck, I may just get another for parts!

News: 1day old

I was there at Jethobby yesterday to check out the clone. Here's my take on this:

Blades are inaccurate, one blade is visibly warpped and the aerofoil is not precise. The LHS owner had to squeeze in the blades, as the root were clearly oversized. U could see that the blade grips were having a hard time accommodating the bigger root thickness.

The head leaves a lot to be desired. See-saw rocker for the flybar to pivot on, was made badly, it's smaller and so there's 1mm++ slop / gap between it and the rectangular flybar "cage". The areas where we have to use grub screws on to secure the flybar on the original MS head are now replaced with wheel collars and not moulded to the cage! Plastic quality is visibily worst off! GI Joe figures use better quality plastic!

Metal conical gear looked okay... Main Gear looked okay....... the Tail bevelled gears looked to be made of composite metal of some sorts.... feels like plastic. There's speed up factored in, so the tail boom end gear is actually bigger than the tail shaft end gear, but they dun seem to run smooth..... Tail blades are longer! with a slightly thicker aerofoil.

Main frame comes with plastic servo mounts styled like duzi mounts. A plastic tail servo mount can also be found on the boom..... all tail fins are "clamped" on.... NO Glue required on the tail boom at all! The carbon plate below the main frame is twice thicker but also appears to be more flexible at the front tray end...

As for the swash plate... Yes... a neat swash ball is included. And it's lower profile than stock MS swash.... HOWEVER.... from the looks of its made of thin soft plastic!!!!!!

The LG is a big improvement.... the Skids are now attached to the Legs via one way screws from the top......

Tail Boom appears to be made of carbon fibre.... I also think it may be made of thinner material......

NOTE: LHS owner said the metal cross pin holding the rotor head to the shaft was bent after the first spool up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In conlcusion, i think only the metal conical gear, tail boom, main frame, carbon fibre plate, and plastic servo mounts and LG assy......and prob the swash plate would serve as good aftermarket replacements.... definitely not good as a kit to buy!!!!!!!!!

Well I agree with a lot things said here but one thing most prominent thing that I strongly agree...

MS NEEDS TO COME DOWN IN THE PRICES! I am just a beginner and in college (MIT, so you know I'm broke). I have no problem with flying my Falcon around and trying new things but the H2, I feel that I must master every little movement before I decide to move on. It's cheaper to crash my nitro than my H2. That is simply ridiculous!

Just my 2 cents!

Mikel

Helis in general

Being a nitro flyer prior to micros, I can say that NO good heli is cheap....as a good friend and rc pro once told me....if you have to ask how much....your in the wrong hobby....and Im a broke musician/photographer. If you average the costs out throughout a year and compare it to...lets say...a real boat, motorcycles, a fast car, car stereos, nice guitars, a speeding ticket on that motorcycle, being stupid (been there $350.00 triple ticket in one pull over)....etc....its not that bad....and I have a log book FULL of nitro crashes....one was a mid air with an airplane (a good friend)...the final costs of my x-cell was $1000.00 to repair after that Easter Sunday. Makes a $100.00 crash seem light now. The big thing is....dont hit anyone or yourself while flying....be safe and have fun. James

Here's a personal example. I would love to buy an MS one way bearing and gear($31.00) for my H2 since I bought mine before the kits started coming with them. But when I price the same part for a Trex($8.60), I get stubborn. It's not that I can't afford the MS part. I just don't want to support them anymore. Will bitching about it get anything done? Doubt it, but, I feel alot better! I can either sell my H2 and take a huge loss, or keep it and keep bitching about the prices.

I understand ur woes AFrotorhead. Cos there have been many times i've been thinking of changing ship to a Zap or Zoom where the it's crash cost is only 1 /5 of the hornet's crash cost..... My friend who 3Ds on it tells me that he pays at most $20USD per crash and $35 can buy him 3 sets of spares of tail shaft, tail gears... 2 sets of foamie blades......

I think it's a price we Hornetians have to pay for keeping a Ferrari...... I'm learning how to 3D now and i dun think my wallet will be able to take it....

That's why i bothered to review the clone H2.... At least the carbon woven boom won;t be costing $20 USD,

What bugs me even more about the MS one way is that it's not very well made. I'm flying the MicroHeli one way now, and it's a much better product. The bearings ride directly on the main shaft and a simple shaft collar holds the assembly on. No more broken sleeves or stupid retaining pins to deal with.

Was going to start a new topic about MS pricing and noticed one of RR's rules says no asking, warning, or talking about pricing. Not that it's going to stop me here in this thread. Where are we supposed to talk about pricing RR, the Better Business Bureau? Do you not care that we get the most out of our money?
I want to keep a negative pricing post at the top of the H2 forumn to put pressure on MS. Who knows, maybe negative press will force them to lower prices. I was thinking though, since MS doesnt have prices for the majority of parts on their website, maybe it's the retailers that are gouging us.
