If I'm already experiencing shut-down on my ESC..wouldn't moving up a pinion or two make it worse since this would be increasing my AMP draw??

ok guys...today I tried the 45a ESC and I'm still getting the same problem. At high throttle the motor seems to be cutting in and out, almost like its pulsing. This makes it impossible to fly once I have it off the ground. So I guess I can pretty much rule out the ESC hardware being the problem. Maybe its my programming? Here's what I have:

1: Voltage cutoff (9V)
2: Current limiting (insensitive)
3: Brake type (Disabled)
4: Throttle type (High Govenor mode)
5: Electronic timing advance (Standard advance)
6: Cutoff type (Soft cutoff)
7: Soft start (soft start)

Or I'm thinking maybe I just have a BAD glitching problem. But I don't think so b/c glitches tend to be more of a random occurence and does not occur in a pattern like sequence. However I could be wrong about this.

Lancenlhof I'm gonna test it out with your settings and see what happens.

I have the same problem but with a slightly different setup.

My T-Rex set up

Hacker E-Flite E3-49
8-tooth pinion
1200 mah 3C Li-Poly’s
Align 25 amp programmable ESC; Set up as follows;
No Brake,
Low Timing,
Mid discharge rate 65%

I originally had an 11-tooth pinion.
I was told the battery couldn't take it and that I needed the 2100 mah.
I tried it with a 2600 mah and had the same results.

Switching to an 8tooth pinion helped quite a bit but if I push it to the max it still will still surge.

Sounds like your pulling more amps then the battery can deliver? I pull 20 amps without any problems from my TP 2100's. I havent been able to pull more then that with the Align 400L even at full thottle and pitch. Im just taking a guess as I have seen what your describing but it was due to the battery not being up to par. I have never used a battery that was as good as a TP. I dont know why they would be the only ones with a hook up on good powerfull cells but they seem to be one step ahead of the competition. Well for some battery manufacuturers I would say there generations apart. I have tried twice to cheat and use a cheaper battery. I always was dissapointed and ended up wasting money because it couldnt deliver the amps.

weird...I dont think its the battery b/c other people with the same motor & battery config AND with a larger pinion (which will pull even more amps) are not having this issue. I have the TP2100 which is rated at 10-12C. Perhaps I will try this with a smaller pinion.

I am running a Mega 16/15/4 17t pinion and TP 2100 with a CC25 controller without any problem. I am using auto calibrating throttle with throttle curves. I do plan on upgrading to a 35 just to be sure I don't overload the bec.

Sounds like your hitting the battery cutoff at 9.0V to me....I had this exact problem today on a foamy plank at the field. I would lower the cutoff voltage to 5 or 6 volts and retry. It has been my experiance that the heli will lose enough power to make it obvious that the battery is getting low. Cutout is bad on a heli anyway... You don't ever want to have to reset the throttle to get the motor back, because the heli will fall out of the sky before you get the motor reset and back on line.
You can always reset the cutout back up to 9V if it doesn't solve your problem.

hhmmm? How many of these TP 2100 do you have? I have cooked a few in my time causing them to do funny things. I have one right now that charges and discharges to full capacity. But if you run more then about 8 amps through it it starts to act like its running low on power even though it isnt. Im sending it back to TP. They are pretty good about turn around times. It wont be more then 2-3 weeks to get it returned. If they find a problem that they determine to not be under warranty they will contact you for a fee to repalce the battery. For the TP 2100 the fee is half price $40. I have sent them about 9 batteries in my time in this hobby. Only twice they asked for a fee and it was the TP 2100's. It was my fault I cooked em. Now Im carefull to not let the battery get hot or underdischarged.

I only have one TP2100 right now. I just bought a kokam 2000 15C from Tower. The battery charges fine. I checked for lumps in the pack but it looks fine. I don't think its the battery. I'll give it a shot with the Kokams, have nothing to lose.

Turn off current limiting, try that, best bet I think
Then change from hi governor to fixed mode, try that

What connectors are you using between the battery and ESC and between the ESC and the Motor? If they are not rated for 25amps this can occur as well (happened to me)

ok I tried it in fixed throttle mode today. No more cutouts. Thats good. The only problem is I have no idea how to setup proper throttle curves for this.

Throttle curves on the electric are a bit different than nitro. In MY heli with the Chili Pepper 3600kv I have my normal mode throttle at 0,50,90,95,100 and my Idle Up mode is 100,100,100,100,100

Depending how powerful your setup is you could probably run 80% instead of my 100% settings and increase as you see fit.
Hope this helps.

The chili pepper is ok. I only have the align motor to compare it with. I don't own the align but a buddy of mine at the field has one and it seems to fly well. I would really like to see one with the mega 16/15/3 fly. Any of these 3 would be a popular choice.
I run the 9T pinion on my chili....

I was having exactly the same problem with the motor cutting out and the radio glitching behaviour. I finally narrowed it down to the fact that the CC 25 was overheating to the point where the shrinkwrap melted right off! I first tried hovering with the canopy OFF for about 5 minutes with no problems. I then put the canopy back on and voila! After less than a minute the motor cut out and the poor little heli dropped out of the sky like a dead pigeon

Gonna try relocating the ESC closer to the cooling fan (well, duh! what was I thinking?) - that should fix it.
