John,

That model looks great but does the added detail slow the sim down. I'm just upgrading to a new Radeon X800 card for G3 and XTR and it would be interesting to know what the model detail does FPS wise.

Ringding,

I agree but if you are coming from a card that was performing to your satisfaction I wonder if the model complexity will make a difference?

I doubt it will be more than a few %. The R50 models already have more than 1000 vertices and faces. A doubling of vertices and faces isn't very noticable as the bottleneck is not on vertex processing. What matters most is the area the model takes up on the screen.

Hi,

The model flies fine on my PC which is an old PC running a 800MHz AMD processor, and an ASUS Geforce 2 video card. I run it on a resolution of 1280x1024 on my PC. I think that the frame rate is then somewhere in the 20 to 30 fps range.

This is fine you know, your TV is only doing 25 frames a second in Europe, and 30 frames a second in the USA, and that is good enough right :-)

A modern PC will do it much faster,

Best regards,

John

30 fps is more than enough. I'm not a speed freak and I'm not testing D3 and don't care about fragging with my bud's as weekend hobby.

What I have noticed, especially on G3, not so much on XTR, but it is there nevertheless, is that fact that the frame rate is all over the place depending on what you are doing. The only thing that I need out of a video card is enough headroom to be able to keep the frame rate constant.

BTW, outstanding job on the Raptor!

Hi,

I have put the pictures on another server, so now I can put them up here again.

These are just some pictures, on my website (http://www.rchelicopterweb.com/) in the simulators section you can find more.

Best regards,
