im having a hell of a time getting the tail on my trex trimmed. im using the align gyro. as soon as it get light on the skids it wants to turn. and just when i get it trimmed so it stays, i give it more throttle and it spins again. in both directions. and when i tried to use hh mode, i cant make it stop spinning. i tried swithcin the rotation on the gyro, and ive tried all different gain settings. i never had this much trouble setting up my nitro heli

1) Does rudder work right ? (w/o gyro)
2) set-up the tail-servo position/rod length so that in neutral rudder stick position t-rex will hover (w/o gyro) with no tail movement
3) just use gyro in HH mode and it should work (if not, reverse its direction)

it spins the right way
it works fine, full travel, no binding. nothing physically wrong with it.

i can trim it with the radio so it stays in one place, but then as soon as i give it any rudder input, or change the throttle setting, it spins or starts drifting around

Is it mounted like this?

Think the lable should be facing either side, and NOT up.

yes and yes... i adjusted the pushrod, and in non-hh mode it holds ok, but its really sensitive, and it wants to move around alot. if i put it in hh mode it will just spin out of control. and if i turn the heli by hand with it in hh mode, it doesnt try to correct at all, it just turns full in one direction and stays there. not like my big heli, where if i hold it by the blades and turn the heli, i can see the gyro (fut. 401) trying to correct

If the gyro still is mounted like on the picture Im quite sure thats whats wrong.
The lable should facing either side and NOT up as the manual says.
Had 3 friends that put them on with the lable up, and got the gyro to trying correct cyclic inputs with the tail

Try it on the ground, but as the same thing happend to my friends it most likely the cause of your problems.

Good Luck with the testing!

if it spins in one direction (not trying to recover wrong tail movement) it is probably reversed. After you trim rudder to stay in hovering, make rod/servo position to that position so it stays right in rudder stick in neutral with zero rudder trim (1,5ms). Or you have set zero gain in HH mode (if it does not recover tail position on throttle changes) ?

Im sure trimming wont help if the gyro is mounted the wrong way due to an error in the manual.

Of course gyro should be positioned as desired (I am not sure, I don't use Align gyros). But it is easy to find its right orientation by holding the bird in hand so no manual is needed ;-)

Think I also had this problem today, crashed twice as a result, not a big deal as it was all fixable (this thing is very crash proof). Will try the gyro in the different orientation to see what happens, probably be tomorrow as it's dark now. Very annoying if this is the problem as the manual explicitly states mounting the gyro with the label facing the sky

same problem

I had the same problem. Also a friend had the same problem. The linkage to the tail is connected to the lead edge. This is opposite to all other helis i have seen. This made all my controlls reverse. Changed them and it works ok.Am using a 401 gyro.

well i got a chance to try it today, and it definatley seems better now. but it still doesnt hold. it either wags like crazy, or drifts ccw. i played with the gain as i tried to hover, and to get it to stop waggin, i had to put it down around 20 in hh mode. then it would slowly drift around

and i noticed that the tail rotor pitch slider was almost full to the left and it was still drifting. then the ball broke off the tail blade grip so i couldnt mess with it anymore

The manual says something about using subtrim to stop the drifting?!
Havent tried one myself so I can only refer to what my friend did when trying it.

do not go by the manual
and as said use the sub trim
turn on the tx then the rx
let the gyro warm up for 2 mins then use the sub trim to get rid of any drift

How do you know if it is in HH mode or regular? There is just a gain knob and a reversing switch on the gyro. I can't tell any difference when I turn the gain knob.

after you turn it on, if you try the rudder control. normal mode will return to center and hh will stay where you leave it.
