Can you use a Jr crystal in a hitec receiver? Are all crystals pretty much the same?

No, you will have to get a Hitec cyrstal. They have different shapes. The hitecs that I have used are thin and the JR's are big. Also, JR and Futaba don't talk the same. Hitec uses a different polarity (not the right word).

shape has nothing to do with it, BUT Hitec uses dual conversion and
JR (except the 95*) use single conversion and the base freq (crystals actual freq) wil be totaly different. The bright side is Hitec crytals
usually cost alot less.
