I think the 8700 servo will burn up easy with a 401...and you need a PCM RX if you use a 8700G servo as it creates way too much noise for PPM.

Not sure but doesnt the GY401 instructions say not to use JR digital servos?

You have to use the low frame rate & it will cause the servo to kick over for the first few secs at power on. Actually works pretty well - but...its best to eliminate the hard over problem and to do that you need to build a circuit. I've got the details but it sounds like you've given the idea away anyway.
