yes it would but if you glue a bit of carbon fibre rod to the vertical fin you can add a stinger to the bottom to act like a fin extension

Got a mod, instead of buying a c/f battery tray extension, get an old DVD case, and use that, double it up for strength, and glue it into place

Heres another Slop mod nice and cheap!

Ball joint instead of pin on the pitch slider, get a servo pushrod balljoint from LHS 50p, plastic and brass, dremmel down the ball mounting pin untill its the same length as the original pin, replace the original pin with the new ball and expoxy it in. Chop the step in the slider arm off leaving the flat vertical, cut the ball joint cup down to the same length as the bit just removed , find a screw that fits the plastic cup and cut that down so it will screw the cup up tight against the crank arm flat, cut a hole and a divot in the arm and screw the cup to it. Epoxy to strengthen it.

Probably heard this one before, but I thought as we are making a list, why not tell it again.

I understand your concern. Actually the mod only lowers the heli by 5mm. I measured the distance from tail rotor, at lowest point, to the ground, and it's 35mm's. That's 40mm before the mod, and 35mm,after. I plan to launch & recover her, from hard surface only, so I don't think the mod will be a problem.
Happy flying

And whay about to put a pair of foam on the skids? It´ll halp to make the

Shogun have the same height and will also absorb some shock.

This picture is just to give an idea, it´s no even from a Shogun of

course but I don´t think why I can´t work on the little heli.

Humm we gotta pay to upload files

But I think you "got the picture", huh?

One thing that I think WE ALL should put as the BIGGEST TARGET is

to find a way to produce a belt drive. HubDave makes the best mod for

the Shogun with no doubt. But it´s 75 bucks. In my case, I don´t have all

this money. A friend of mine said it´s not "that" hard to do, although he

have no time to do one. Anyone have any clue? I really admire

HubDave´s work (and if I have moeny I´ll gladly buy it, because it´s not

a "fake" mod like those at the HeliHobby) but all the guys are saying

that he makes no profits on it, so, it´s not a "Robin Hood" project I´m

proposing, it´s just a share of knowledge.

HubDave, please don´t get upset with me, I´m just a 3rd world guy who

wants to fly...

p&p = post and packaging. I mailed them and they want $30 to send $12 worth of parts to the UK.

Yes I have seen that ebay posting. The guy must have purchased loads of them and is now selling them off. He wants $37 again for $12 worth of parts part I guess is trying to recover p&p and make a profit.

He upset the guy who who's web site I posted as he intially used all his photos as instructions how to do it.

I have decided intially to try stock gears and then the new bevelled gears that Protech are about to release.

About five items down.

Hi Pipefish

Hubdaves kit comes with CF chassis plates all the screws and extra bearing. Perhaps this is where the money went. However current £ to $ is very good for us here in the UK so it was cheap for me.

I still very glad I went with Daves kit, his level of customer service is outstanding and he has sent me free bits too.

Hey pigs dont fly,

you know, a movie maker from Brasil (Glauber Rocha) once said: "All

the unanimity is dumb". I think if we talk about Dave´s product´s,

Mr. Rocha is wrong. It´s amazing the quantity of good things his

costumer´s talk about him. Although, someone said that a german

company is making a belt drive system that you don´t need to cut the

frame as the Dave´s have to.

Have you heard of them? Did you waited to break your in & out tail

gears to buy the HubDave´s BD?

Yes it´s true. So, I´ll go on topic again.

You guys can send me the measures of your fin sets?

That´s because I´ll make mods in Expanded PVC (or Sintra) and I want

a nice size average to make these mods.

Thanks

Hi there Pipefish

quote:someone said that a german company is making a belt drive system
That German company yes I have heard noises about them like you, but not seen anything yet, I think www.electricrotors.co.uk will be selling it in the UK,they are trialing one I think its the same one.

Yes I got fed up with trashing gears in my Zoom went through about 6, then started flying using a board to takeoff from, the final straw came when I rounded off the input end of the carbon shaft by hitting idleup without enough headspeed. Found Hubdaves thread on RC Groups read all the nice stuff everyone was saying about him and thought 'why not give it a go'. I have seen Taus's mod and that CNC one too but they came after I had ordered.

Anywayz back on track with the cheap mods, when canopy breaks I will be replacing it with a shampoo bottle canopy, I made one for my Hummingbird ages ago and its still looks good (looks better now I repainted it) the mod is on RC groups site http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...0&page=3&pp=15, its really tough. Thanks avance X! Dunno if Im allowed to link to another forum or not so the link may or may not work.

carbon fins

I made a set of fins for my evo. I make sheets of carbon and have them cnc'd. I just got my dolphin today and was looking at the spaces between the evo fins and there is enough to make some for the zoom etc. I should be able to make them for about $10 a set. initial cost is high as I have to pay someone to do the cad design and layout, but I won't add it on up front.
I made the evo fins out of 2mm carbon but I have 2 sheets of 1.5mm

as I look at the heli, I am thinking a tail fin mounted tail servo would be cool. I had seen another design here, I like that idea except maybe the added weight.

so for another price saving, what about gws bbservos? I know an lhs that will sell them for $13 each in the states and has good numbers.
at 4.8 volts...
hitec 56 is 14 oz tq/ .12 speed/ size 23 x 12 x 24mm/weight 10.7 gr
gws picco bb 11 oz tq/ .12 speed/ size 22.8 x 9.5 x 19.8/weight 6.2 gr

gws worked in my park planks fine.

if anybody is interested, I can show you how to make your own carbon fibre sheets, it's actually really easy and only a $20 tool, 2 pcs of glass, some carbon cloth, 2 pcs of glass, some mould release wax (bees wax works too) and some regular fibreglass resin (I used auto resin from canadian tire)

Sure here goes.... I practiced with fibreglass at first as it was cheaper in case you make a mistake.
take your mould release wax and rub on a smooth surface. tempered glass works great, but we made some on countertop, metal sheets etc...
use a paintbrush and drizzle resin on glass and lay down carbon fibre cloth. dip paint brush in resin and dab over cloth to wet down good, put another piece of cloth over top. for max strength you can change the angles of the weave for each level of cloth. after second cloth, you take this little toothed roller tool and roll over the surface to release bubbles. it looks like a pizza cutter with teeth. a buddy of mine set his glass on top of a speaker and listened to music while he worked so the sound helped release bubbles, but I never tried that.

repeat the dabbing, cloth and rolling until desired thickness then lay a waxed piece of glass over top to sandwich. I like to use a thick glass as pressure makes it even. let it dry and peel it off. the wax keeps it from sticking. go to any plastics shop and ask for carbon cloth.

I have also been working with carbon kevlar. it is red and black. it looks really sweet but very hard to cut. I always end up with ruff edges and find it easier to respray after I am done with varathane professional finish. my 8th scale buggy has been done with that and the pro finish holds up well.

I can't set this little guy down. I am looking at the frames and such and it wouldn't be all that hard to redo a lot of parts in carbon. I will just get some aluminum tubing and use a tap set to thread it for cross braces. I have to wait for my servos and such to arrive so might as well hehe
I have pic of the evo fins in my gallery
