Wow..........great post Pariah. Having owned and flown both myself, there is one other point that I find is a plus in the Evo. No voodoo techniques for getting the engine/clutch/bell to feel smooth on install. Just push the engine up in the frames and bolt it down. On the Raptor it took me a looooong time each time I pulled the engine to get the clutch/bell/start shaft lined up perfectly so the start coupler would spin freely. (Clutch not dragging on the bell.)

ALL of the bolts are 32mm?

No, not all bolts on the heli are 32 mm, but those that holds the chassis together and are fixed with a nut on the other side are. Some 15 of them in total actually.

On this link: http://model2.hirobo.co.jp/parts-li...ass/30class.htm you can find much of the manual for the Sceadu on-line. About bolts and nuts for the chassis check this document: http://model2.hirobo.co.jp/parts-li...12934_71-72.pdf.

Does the delrin gear fix the noise? Some people say it doesn't.

I don't think you will ever get 100% guarantees... All EVOs I have seen equipped with the delrin main and second gears have been silent, it is ten or so EVOs we are talking about. I have not come across any delrin upgraded EVO that wasn't silent, but of course this is no guarantee that it won't happen. Machines with only the small counter gear in delrin have not been quiet.

WOW

Thanks for all of that information! That was a great post, Pariah!

I think I'll stick with the EVO... these minuses aren't enough to discourage me!

One more question--what servos? Will Futaba 3305's work?

Thanks to all of you!

weak std flybarrod

What a load of crap.... the std. flybarrod on the R50 is strong enough!
It WILL NOT bend when you look at it (I should know, been flying these things for some time now )

The raptor doesn`t need any upgrades right away, but when you`ve flown it alot some slop does develop in the washout base and headblock.....

Never had a tail failure or any other failure induced bad quality or wear and tear.....

PV0115 Washout pins & Clips should be included in the kit... it`s only a $2 dollar upgrade

Cheers,

Rich

ps. all the things I mentioned above are from my own experience when my rappy was still ehm.... a Raptor...

.....for 350 bucks what did you think you were getting? I don't know about the EVO since I own a R50 and a Robbe 50 but for what I paid, I got a hell of a good heli....yes, it wears out pretty fast but hell, for 100 bucks in spares every 3 or 4 months, I have a brand new Rappy again.

The only problem I've faced is:

-Tail rotor grips wobble after some time. New grips (5 bucks) and I'm all set.

The rest is normal wear for a VERY CHEAP heli!

Want quality, try Miniature Aircraft for at least 700 bucks w/o blades...And I'll bet you'll find lots of wrongs too anyway!

Good post Pariah - in the spirit of the thread imo.

Just a hint with the raptor tank that seems to have caused you grief - undo one of the rear U/C screws and there is plenty of flex to get the tank out without straining.

What about the servos?

Pariah: did you buy and/or make a carbon base plate for the EVO or did you just use it as is?
Tell me how your first flights go!

Thanks!

Hi Marco,

I`m trying not to step on any toes here but the weak std. flybar issue is really a non-issue.... this tread was suppose to be about:

Only bad things about Evo50 vs Raptor 50 V2

imho the flybar on the raptor is more than strong enough to do the job, it won`t bend unless you put some serious force on it.

And the for the ****ty woodenblades, there quite good actually... I had a chance to 3D a helicopter from a student of mine with those blades and there even better than I expected... not bad at all

Carbons are the way to go though, but only if you think you won`t break them or you have enough money (please get the TT carbons, not the NHP black ones...)

Cheers,

Rich

ps. I`m not about it.... but my mouth is falling wide open everytime I read about the "weak std. flybarrod"

I bought a Raptor, I then bought a Evo, and I sold the Raptor and kept the Evo.

Does this help?

I agree it is a perceived value at 160. After you add a head button, bearing upgrade and antirotation bracket it cost 200. Still livable. You still have to polish the turd to get it to fly. Take it apart, sand and smooth all the little things, etc. I know, I've owned three, and built seven. All these subtle fixes make the hawk a great flying 30. I wish it came as a kit instead of as an ARF.

I think they are a good starting place. But to compare a Hawk Sport to a Raptor or Sceadu, or even a Falcon or Raven is egregious. They just aren't in the same ballpark.

We are talking about mostly subtle issues with the Evo and Raptor. Minor complaints that distinguish one from the other. Making a list for the Hawk Sport would be like shooting fish in a barrel.

Thanks, John Cadwell

Hope we discuss only bad things and tips to overcome about Rapter and EVO in this thread as stated in first post.
We have had enough debates about good things about Raptor VS EVO, haven't we?
Thank you all. your posts are really helpful.

Yeah, there's more than enough 'Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge' in the world as it is. But you gotta BS about something, I suppose...
