Sorry for another rappy vs evo thread.
I'm in the market for 50 size bird and have read more than enough "good thinngs about it" stories on both EVO50 and Rappy50v2.
Now I want to hear ONLY bad things aboud them.
1st hand experience prefered but any advice will be welcomed.
Thanks.

Evo
week servo tray and sideframes but if you get the NHP frame stiffener it cures the problem.

evo weak spindles ( bend in flight ), and crappy soft stock dampers, needs CX dampers for 3d flight. weak servo try and frames, servo tray almost always breaks in a crash.

rappy needs canopy mod, and tail area needs to be carefully put together when in the building process. another bad thing about the raptor is that you can only run 85mm tail blades

apart from those problems the two machines are great.

The EVO's original main and second gear develops a high-pitch noise, at least for all EVOs I have experienced (including my own). This is very annoying to say the least and is cured through buying the much more expensive delrin upgrade parts (i.e. 0412-168). Some have tried to change only the small counter gear but this is often not enough to silence the EVO's gear noise. A few have changed all three gears and may have achieved an even more silent EVO than with only the main and second gears changed, personally I will try this too as soon as I get the counter gear from my source.

In the Evo, the sprag (one way) bearing seems to break often. It is best to do Augusto's grease mod which fixes the problem right away.

http://runryder.com/helicopter/t554...=augusto+grease

Also, the landing skids are alittle too narrow for my liking so I got the Mavrikk supergear from Heliproz. It is very low profile and only $13.

It is a great machine tho!

The EVO comes with 80' dampers (havent seen any harder - except the CX ones ), using the SD-G yoke allows you to use 4x80 dampers instead of 2 as in the std yoke.

'Hm now I just have to find out where to connect the GV1 sensor to the Jazz80 ESC.

Sorry, let me correct myself. The stock dampers are 80 durometer which is quite hard, but for the way the evo head is designed, I personally think it needs harder dampers to reduce the chances of a mid air boomstrike, and also to reduce blade flutter during big manouvers.

Imho the 80duro dampers are not enough for 3d with the evo.

The CX dampers are great in the evo, i wouldnt fly without them, nice and soft in a hover but also nice and stiff for 3d flight.

This is only my personal opinion, and this is only from my experience.

No heli is perfect; the Evo 50 is the best at this time. However, I did change:

a) main blades (used stiffer blades)
b) tail blades (increased diameter for better holding for 3D)
c) tail grips from Freya (to reduce slop)

Raptor:

- stock TR blades suck (stock blades always suck)
- TR hub sucks (thown bladegrips anyone?)
- no thrust bearings in tail
- m/r hub wears out quickly (wobble wobble)
- engine is forward facing -- pita to change plug esspecially with a big DL hanging off the bottom of the radio tray
- canopy screw needed
- antigravity crash reduction system not present
- stock paddles suck -- minair ones don't though

On the Evo, the stock radius block and washout block are supposed to suck - I eliminated any issues with it by upgrading to the aluminum ones. I also did the Carbon Extreme dampeners and the Freya landing gear. I really like the way it flies. Next bent spindle, I'll try the Quick UK ones...

On my Raptor 50v2, stock paddles and tail blades suck. I upgraded to the white Xcell 3d paddles and NHP 85mm tail blades.

Adding up all the upgrades, the EVO comes out quite a bit more that the 50v2, but in my opinion, I think the EVO flies smoother than the 50v2.

raptor

only owned the raptor 50 v2.
Head block wobbles after short time. Stock metal swash has play in it from start and isn't adjustable (small though)
Washout base sloppy on mast from day one.
upper bearing develops slop quickly in plastic side frames so whole mast can be moved side to side with a kind of "clicking" noise present.
Only bad things to say. oh I hate those heaps of philips head screws on the darn thing but then I hate any screw thats not a cap screw!
All these issues quite easy to address. Flew well even with the above problems but before I sold it it was starting to develop a wobble during hover which I believe was the head block slop on the mast.
Cheers

Washout was upgraded from the start as daddiesyacht said it gets sloppy real quick, find atleast one screw loose after hovering for only a few mins, threads also strip easily i have atleast 4 screws that have had to be CA`ed in and the plastic frames dont feel as good a quality as the Hirobo ones.

Apart from that i have no other issues as yet

How come there aren't anyone else pointingout the raptors faults : you all chicken of being labeled raptor bashers ?

And i've never had that clicking noise yet, last time i spit the frames the bearing was still in tight with no signs of moving after 2 years of use.

If you get a rappy V1 your more likely than not to have clutch problems. I just cracked a shoe on Saturday. I don't know if Ace corrected the problem in the V2???

Main Frame for the EVO is too weak in the contact of Main Frame with Landing Gear.

Repair it ~~ Just cost very little money, ~~~~ but cost you much time.

I have both of these helis. They are both very good helis. I don't like the EVO one piece Clutch/Start Shaft that requires a dial indicator to install correctly, isn't mounted on tapered collets (or similar), and requires a start shaft with a oneway bearing. I'd rather have a raptor clutch break every 10 gallons or so.
Hands down, Hirobo customer service is the best.
