I heard about this new radio back in June from Andy at jetline models.

This radio sounds like it could be the billy bollocks, especially for people like myself who fly jets and need the extra channels. Could open up a lot more possibilities for helis too.

Lets see.

I wish they would have made the system a
bit more 'modular', ie. base unit is 10 channel
and you can add 0, 1, or 2 2-ch 'cards' to
make the TX you want.

We'll just have to wait and see.

The downside of this is that you need this radio to be able to program them. I don't think this will happen. Any feature the new TX may have concerning the GV1 or gyros will be additional and not needed so it will not reduce the size of the GV1/Gyros.

Not true.. CSM could make some software for it that will work thru the CE operating system and that would benefit users of this radio and PPC users... far easier than a laptop fer sure...

This will be the first in a long line of Windows CE based TX's... its the future... That way manufacturers can concentrate on hardware consistency and make all their tweaks in software...

How would you feel about having a 701 gyro that had the option of keeping the control box onboard or downloading all the parameters to its PIC chip and having 601 performance with 560 upgradeability and software customisable... and most importantly a small onboard box...

The 560 and TJ's arent smaller because they are less capable (wait for the comments now) they are smaller coz they are programmed externally and only the final parameters saved to the system... most of the 601/GV1 is display and programming interface... it could be a lot smaller... may mean they have to sell a seperate programmer for JR peons, but who cares..

Some wont like it but many will....

I am not even worried about the extra channels... they can make a 9CHP replacement with the same software and interface and you pay less for less channels...

I would be very surprised if other manufacturers dont follow this route...

I know its what I have always wanted, a 9ZHP+ with 10X useability and more....

the real benefit surely has to be that the end is nigh for having the amps on the heli. this should hopefully mean only the sensor need be on the heli. same with GV-1's new replacement if that happens. probably a when not an if though. as most know the amp is the weak link in the gyro and gov system. if futaba has worked out how to get these off the heli then superb.

what i would like to see is the ability to keep an eye on engine temp when you are flying.

i for one would like this style of programming. if the 701 or 602 or whatever it will be called does this then it will be a winner. the room a 601 and gv-1 takes up is quite a lot. especially on a rappy 50. where as something the new TJ size but with 601 capabilities would certainly be welcome.

cheers

Ugly looking thing, apart from the colour screen of course, but will be a 'must have' if the price is vaguely sensible here in the UK.

Key thing for me will be backwards compatibility with 309DPS and 148/9 receivers, just too many of them to go and replace wholesale, and if a synthesizer module is standard (wouldn't want to lose that flexibility). Extra channels will be useful for jets.

Another factor will be the possibility of taking a model config from a 9Z via campac or cable and loading into the 14. Otherwise there's a lot of work transferring the exiting fleet!

Windows CE won't be a problem for a closed system running a single Futaba application. Should offer the capability for firmware updates via the internet!!

Will there be separate inputs, i.e. dedicated switches or pots for the additional channels, or will these be signals that have been mixed from the usual stick inputs etc?
