i don't think the 1024 rx will work with 2048. I could be wrong though. If it has li-po's as a stock battery count me out. I had a pwerflight li-po battery in my 9z that went south on me while flying and a friend of mine had duralites in his 9z go south on him while setting up his plane on the bench. If they go with li-po's or Ion batteries they would have to supply a charger for it. Big $$$

For the last 20 years I have been playing those electronic keyboards.
They work usually no worries.

But a year or so ago, one company came out with colour touch screens but the worst thing was the whole thing was windows based.

Will work fine for a week, a month etc. Countless hours of use no worrries.. But all of a sudden, it will crash.

No worries, reboot.. cool.. But you just stop playing the instrument, wait and start again. no harm done.

I wonder if anyone has had a windows xp computer freeze or glitch..

Hmm point is, would I trust the first generation of radio transmitter with windows based software.. I don;t think so.

LOVE THE SCREEN..

Come on JR, your turn to kick back. We need a new PCM 10x.

(LiPo aside and I dont think LiPo is going to be stock on the 14Z).

I doubt they will have lipos, more likely Li-Ion cells like PDA's mobile phones etc etc that run PPC OS...

My SPV M1000 runs PPC with GSM and the battery is good for a day, but I can always stick it on charge given an issue and it fully charges in one hour from flat...

Even better than that the docking cradle charges a spare for me to take out...

The battery indicator is very accurate also

Gosh,
Like you didn't have catastrophic software bugs in older systems... 9ZHP (non WC) comes to mind....
Fly it as long as it works and run for cover when it stops...

The more I look at the pics, the more it appears to me to be designed with keeping it clean, in mind.

Angles switches at the top.. sorted..
maybe slightly more staggered switches on the top too, for easier operation for the front one?
My fat fingers sit easiliy between a JR pcm 10 top switches but not so with the zhp.

all the current top radios do get bits and bobs in the tiny indentations etc. Look great though..
This new design sure does look like an easy clean option.

And at least, a touch screen from Futaba. Jr lead the way, time for them to come back with something even better..

You bet they will..

Where is it written that this new radio has anything to do with Windows software of any type?

Is this only assumed because it uses a color touch screen?

-----

Battery types, I hope it does have Li-Pos or Li-Ions! with the proper alarm setting when the voltage gets down (long before you are really in any danger of loosing control or damaging the battery) Also have a nice little dedicated charger (just like the one for my phone!!) With the proper protection... Just plug in in and forget it!!!! Just like the billions of cell phones charging in 9 out of 10 cars everyday. Not much money needed there.

Surely not...

Why not SD cards?

why have the change to windows software? i realise the old system was limited but it worked. you can guess what happens with this one. i have absolutely no doubt it will crash at some point. blue screen.

hope not. i think it looks the dogs. don't care if it looks cheap. it has gadgets and BLING factor.

now for the real question. when are JR doing this. i assume they are already doing similar. only hope they make it for planes and heli's this time. they messed up with that one.

cheers

The reason for a change to Windows CE is fairly obvious really..

Why program from scratch when you can program for an already fully functional operating system...

All the tools to program for CE come with a developers kit, and getting parts of the system to talk to others is fairly straightforward...

Blue screen of death is not a function of CE, that privelage is reserved for versions of windows that have to cope with infinately variable PC market...

You should not compare the stability of PPC/CE with mainstream PC operating systems with their many drivers that arent certified etc etc...

This system will have been tested and tested and tested before launch and I have no doubt will be the radio of the future...

I have no doubt that this could be the radio that allows you to interface with new gyro's as they are launched by futaba, to tweak the parameters and keep the onboard weight down, without the requirement of carrying a laptop to the field with you...

Dont underestimate the potential of this system, it is huge...

couldn't agree more galifrey. this is definetely the future in radio gear. but don't think for one moment this CE is failsafe or foolproof. i have seen PDA's that will beg to differ. but thats another story.

obviously though it will have been well tested and re-tested. i have no doubt it will work. but i would wait on the first few batches first before buying.

but i can see the bigger picture. i hope it will have some sort of wireless facility to communicate with your PC to upload/download info to and from the radio for individual models. also would be nice if it will include some sort of future ability to accomodate similar ideas to paul's with his data machine for transmitting info back to a reciever on the ground. posibillities are endless really with windows.

cheers

Compatibility

There are no details available on compatibility as yet. Would not be appropriate to guess at this point.

Full details will likely filter in through the net during the next month or so, but don't look for anything official until November or December at the earliest.

I understand the concern about Windows Crashing but in my many years in the computer field I have to admit that Windows is a very stable OS as long as you don't add any other software. I have seen Windows systems that were configured to do a single task, that no other software was added to run for years without a reboot. Once you start added software and hardware from other vendors or (MS Office) then we start seeing the blue screens of death.
If they did there homework and certified any software changes with MS then I think they will have a stabe system until someone writes a virus and finds a way to get it loaded into the TX.

I like the possibilty of being able to program a gyro and/or gv-1 from the transmitter. i.e. gain, limits, mode, etc. this would get rid of the control box on the 601 and gv-1 or at least the lcd and make it smaller.

My PC stays running non-stop 24/7 365 days a year...

It never crashes...

Windows XP Pro, and the only reboot it gets is when I have installed something or changed something...

Just this weekend it had a nice new Mobo, CPU and Ram couple with 2 200gb SATA drives in raid, thats 2 raid arrays now on the machine and no problems...

Guess its down to who is building and operating... and what dodgy pirate software you install on em...

Yeah PDA's can lock up, usually its a user issue filling the command buffer with commands...

Imagine the possibilities tho, as long as the CPU is up to the job (probably be at least a 400mhz ARM) the operating system and software can be updated with a download from MS or Futaba, the USB interface can talk to the heli... and your laptop...

Download and save TX data, modify it in a virtual environment, maybe even build in a flight sim to allow you to see the effect of your changes on screen...

I am very optimistic about this technology, it is a real step up from what CSM have tried to do with the 560 etc and no doubt they will take advantage of it along with Futaba...

Cant wait to see the next line of "peripherals" to go on my aircraft that this baby interfaces with...

If they go SD card there are plenty of SD wireless Network cards available as well..

The downside of this is that you need this radio to be able to program them. I don't think this will happen. Any feature the new TX may have concerning the GV1 or gyros will be additional and not needed so it will not reduce the size of the GV1/Gyros.

Hi,

they could also use the tx display as the programming interface for gyros, govs and so on or read out reception quality logs from the receiver.

And it certainly beats the IPOD as the mp3 player to be seen with
