Is it common to advertise giving the proceeds to a charity and only giving them 1/3 of the profits and keeping the other 2/3s to build the club shelter or/and other things for the club?

Here's a pleasant suprise. It nice to hear from a fan of our wonderful heli club.

It's never too late to join our club. We have an excellent web site filled with information and photos! Feel free to browse around:

http://www.swarmheli.com/

Yes, thank you for pointing out that some of our proceeds do indeed go to help sick children stuck in hospitals. In the 3 years we have held our fun fly, we have donated hundreds of dollars to these children! Great job local pilots, my hats off to you.

We often have cook outs and meetings and social gatherings at the field we fly at, so we had an opportunity to install a shelter to keep us from the elements. It was such a success. In the summer, it shades us from the mighty sun and in the winter it keeps us warm and protected from the blistering winds of southeast wisconsin! Special thanks for the RAMS club for allowing us to erect our shade and protection - maybe it'll catch on and you gents will install one for your benefit too!

My apologies, I'm rambling.....I've lost track of the original posters question. No, I don't think its bad to give to sick children. Did you think we wasted club money by donating it to them, air-foil? gosh - I thought we were doing the right thing. What do suggest we should do?

You know, I just hate these screen names - they can be so anonymous, my name is Mike Sherman - my friends call me coach. What is your name, air-foil? If you have a minute and want to talk about joining our club, my phone number is (414)761-2144, I'm home after 6pm and please no later than 10:30! I'd be happy to talk.

Regards,

Mike "coach" Sherman

Mike

I think he is asking when it says the proceeds are going to charity do 100% go to the charity or does only part of it. I would think if only a part of the proceeds are going to charity it should say so on the flyer. If I go to a fun fly I want to know if the money goes into the club's pocket or to charity. If the money is going to charity I will buy raffle tickets if the money is going to the club I don't. I just don't feel that I should have to fund their hobby.

Paul,

Yes, we advertise on our FunFly flyers that "proceeds" go to the Childrens Hospital of Wisconsin. Every year we have held our funfly, we have given a generous portion of the proceeds to that charity.

We're not a huge organization, but I like to think we make a difference in the lives of some children.

Hope that helps answer your question.

BTW - buy a ticket or two even if it just supports the local flyers of the funfly you are attending. Let's help grow this hobby of ours. I don't think you are funding their hobby, you are simply helping cover funds that make the funfly and other misc. activities possible throughout the year. I wouldn't dare ask you at our funfly to buy me a c-spec for my fury just because you showed up - I would; however, ask you to buy a raffle ticket that helps pay for the stone gravel you are standing on, or the shade from the shelter you are standing under, or etc. etc.

Regards,

Mike Sherman

Maybe

Maybe you guys should attend one of our meetings, you can get an in depth review on how we spend all of our money. You might even find out that the club shelter was paid for by membership dues and a generous grant from the Milwaukee RC Association.

If we gave away100% of the proceeds pulled in at the funfly we would go completely broke due to obvious accounting issues.

By growing our club with field improvements, we run the risk of having more membres, a bigger funfly each year, and raising more and more money for Childrens Hospital! WOW!

Oh and by the way, we have given over $1000 in the very short time we have been doing this to CH.

Yes, I am sure a lot of people at this years funfly will be standing under our shelter if it rains. Gotta keep all those donators dry you know!

there are major fund raising companies that after all there expenses
and payroll are met as little as 10% of the total or less is
given to the charity

Hey air-foil

Before you make a post, Check the facts.......... As a club we have membership. Thats what pays for our shelter. HOW DARE YOU POST SOMETHING LIKE THAT. Take your head out of your ass...... Some day we will find out who "air-foil" is and we will have a long talk. In fact, "be a man" I'm at the field EVERY weekend. Interduce yourself. I'm Hoss and would really like to talk to you face to face. You got big balls to make a post like this.

HOPE TO SEE YOU AT OUR FIELD

Even though the original question was not aimed at any specific club, the location of Air Foil led some to believe that the only "heli only" club in the area was his point.

For the record SWARM club has given $1,506.00 to Children's Hospital from 2003 to date - and we still have the 2005 FF !!!!!!!!!!

That’s $1506 in just the last 2 years.

If anyone is concerned as to what moneys are donated all they have to do is come to the flying field and/or one of our meetings and ask. We will be happy to explain it all to them.

I was at the Swarm Fun Fly last year and I am planning on coming again this year. I don't have a problem with some of the funds going to cover the club's costs.

My point on funding some one else's hobby is there is a plank club in my area that has a Fun Fly every month from May thru September. They expect members of the club I belong to show up at all of them pay the landing fee, buy food, and raffle tickets. The money they raise goes to keeping their dues lower. The club I belong to Has one Fun Fly a year and all we are really looking for is to cover is the cost of putting it on. Does any one from the club that has 5 Fun Flys a year support us? No they don't. That is what I consider funding some one else's hobby. We pay for all of our expenses (rent on field, gas and maintainance of the mower, sun shade, and storage shed) with our membership dues which are higher than other clubs in the area. If at the end of the year we short the core group of flyers would kick some extra to balance the books just to have a place locally to fly.
