I watched the only footage I think was out there about 10 minutes after it went in from some guy that was standing with me near (but not at) the site. He got the heli before take-off, during climb out and turn, engine sputter and sharp left bank behind the trees. There was no footage because of where it went in of the actual impact. I think, if I recall but it was hard on his mini-cam screen, you might have seen a puff of dirt or blade tip - but the crash couldn't be seen from the flight line or parking lot because of where it went in.

Anyway, again, Jerry is one lucky dude as is his passenger.

full scale crash..

One of the guys I was with spent 15 minutes during his preflight video taping the heli. They sat on the ground running for quite some time, and then took off, turned towards the airfield, and then you could hear on the video the sound of what I would guess was a backfire maybe. The tape was taken by the sheriff to submit to NTSB I would guess, but it's supposed to be returned, so maybe we'll get to see it again. You don't actually see it hit the ground, but you see it disappear over the top of the hill and then the dust cloud when it hit. But you definitely can tell something went wrong mechanically by the sound of it. I find it amazing that you could even auto one of those if you wanted to, since the head speed seems so slow.. but then maybe that's why it ditched.

It truly was the culmination of the day when it happened.. all the big boys stickin their heli's in the ground, and then a full scale one.. Who would have thunk it??

I was flying my Turbine LM Cobra for the SKS Video guys when the Bell went in ... I had almost put my Cobra in as well! I thought something had broken and to avoid anyone from getting hurt I pushed it away from me and spectators as fast as possible then set her down. I later found out that the loud "Pop" that I heard was the Bell crashing. Sure am Happy that the 2 guys Walked from the wreckage! ... Plus that I did not damage my Cobra as well!!
