While I wish these guys well, and hope they are successful, methinks they are running into the hard wall of the reality of bringing a viable machine to market.

Look at HPI, a multi-national corporation with tons of resources and lots of experience in the r/c car business. They acquired the Kalt line of helicopters and announced big plans for the future. Then, all of that simply went away, with no explanation.

I was told that the economic realities of reviving and further developing the line shocked HPI upper management when they got into the meat of planning and saw the actual numbers involved, and decided quickly to cut their losses and dump the idea.

This is hearsay, albeit from a good source, but hearsay nonetheless. However, it began the same way this is going; first, all the advertising got pulled. Then, any and all references on the firm's site disappeared.

Please understand, I don't care one way or the other, I'm just pointing out, that their website is down and JK removed the hyperlinks from his own site that pointed to Synergy.

Don't you think that's strange?

They must have a good reason to do things this way because they will destroy some of the demand for the Synergy that they have created. Some people who decided to wait with their next purchase may very well be discouraged by these latest events.

maybe the reason Jason removed the link from his website is because they are tottally redoing the Synergy website, and he doesnt want people to click on the link and it not work then he would get emails asking why why why why....and he was hoping that doing that would stop that.....you think of that?

No I didn't because there is no reason to do it this way. JK removed the entire text of his new venture with Synergy, not just the link to the website. Also there is usually no reason to remove an old website before launching a new one. And even if there was there is usually a page connected to the domain letting people know it is offline because of work in progress. This is either done very unprofessionally or there are things going on that we don't know about.

But there is a bright side. On the Freestyle 3D website both the info and link to Synergy are still there.

yep...

but there is always these hardcore believers and followers even if everything is pointing in the other direction.

no reason whatsoever to pull links and have the website down. none.

please...

there was nothing to redo on the website... because there was nothing on at the first place. and we all know it's better to have somthing on there than a "server not found..."

regardless i don't wish anyone bad and i wish them best of luck. running a bussines is hard and often not sucessfull... it takes way more than beeing a good flyer...

best of luck to them...

So spil it! And please don't give us the crap about that you can't talk about it. I'm sure that JK and Todd didn't give any sensitive info that they didn't want everybody to know.

he is useing 3d CAD drawings...so it is taking him VERY long to finish the whole heli. infact, the main gear, with the auto clutch in it, took about 20 hours....it might be showing up at a flying feild in a month or two. give it time...it is going to be a very sweet heli.......

If it takes 20 hours to extrude a gear tooth form and revsurf an auto hub, might I suggest a pro draftsman. It's just a thought.

It doesn't take calculus to do a CAD design of a main gear. (or any other part).

The only math I could see being used is if he is trying to figure out tolerances. I give him credit, learning a CAD program by himself takes time. I took 1yr of college level CAD c and since I haven't used it lately I have forgotten many of the tricks/shortcuts that I learned.

Let's reduce this little project to its smallest elements.

Most spur gears are easily generated by macros built into ACAD or similar programs. EZ Cam, FeatureCam, SurfCam and a host of others have gear macros that can generate just about any pitch diameter, pressure angle and number of teeth. A short consultation with the Machinery's Handbook and you can easily design a simple gear train and calculate the theoretical center to center distances. This allows you to machine or mold the backlash tolerances into the mating gears. BTW, calculus is not required for any of this work.

Creating the bevel gear shape is a little more complicated but not by much. Once the gear ratios are calculated it is a simple matter to create the wire frame and extrude the shape through a solid block to subtract the initial gear shape for the blank. The top shape can be done with a revsurf cut of the resulting blank and then the bevel gear shape can be extruded, copied and rotated through the blank along with the bolt hole circle and autorotation bore. Solid modeling is the schizznitzz when it comes to designing stuff.

It's a whole lot harder to go from "art to part". IOW, drawing is easy, making it can be hard.

it is going to be a very sweet heli

Blahblahblah....

Why is it going to be sweet? Did JK tell you it is going to be sweet or did you draw your own conclusion based on specifications he gave you?

Please don't post if you don't want to tell anything. If you ask me you are only trying to show off that you know Jason & Todd.

I'm sorry if I start sounding like an a$$ but this is starting to irritate me.
