XFC

Marcus is the man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice contest debut! Watch out champs, he's on the way!

I have heard that there were a few judging issues at XFC. There is talk about a "home field advantage" in the judges eyes. That meaning, some of the local guys got higher scores than flown. I heard something about crashing an auto and still scoring big. Anyone alse have an opinion on this?

The purpose of this is not to express my opinion on this matter. I am too new to helis have a legitimate opinion. I am only throwing it out there for discussion.

Ohio guys,

Again, not my opinion. Just buzz.

Yes, there must be a deep conspiracy against your part of the country. Obviously.

Had the judges known that Marcus was not a local guy, he would have placed last....oh wait. Last place was a guy from Ohio! The judges must have thought he was from somewhere else.

The judges are as fair and painfully honest as it is possible to be. The best pilots win. Some pilots whine. The winning pilots don't whine. Marcus did well because he is a good pilot, he has style, and flew a nice program. Don't forget that this is a VERY tough group of pilots.

Please find the judging criteria for the XFC and read it before you post anything else about the judges at the XFC. Most have been in the hobby for a decade or more. They know what they are looking for in a flight. These judges do an awfull lot of work for the benefit of the pilots and event staff. They deserve praise, not the recipient of any "rumors."

If that is not your opinion, tell us whose opinion it is, or keep it to yourself.

Now, that is my opinion.

Chopper

I guess you justified my hesitation about my post. I think that I was misleading with the Marcus thing. It was two seperate points along the same subject line. It was not my intention to link the judge subject matter w/ Marcus' placement. The last thing I want to do is link him with any consperacy. I should have been more careful with my words. As far as the body of what I said, I was not saying that the "rumor" was true. I was only throwing it out there for discussion. I respect all who particepated, coordinated, JUDGED, and attended XFC. I do agree that it was the "Top Guns" of the heli world. I apologize for even entertaining the matter, and to all offended.

Dorfman, I too hesitated to reply to this post. I did not want to jump on someone like that. The most disturbing thing about this is that I believe I know where that type of complaining is coming from (!!!!!!!), and it bothers me. I jumped on you (the messenger) instead.

The Nats is going on right now. There is judging and I'm sure there will be some complaints about the judging from those who thought they should have done better. I have judged at the Nats and I have flown at the Nats. The best pilots always seem to win. It somehow works. Maybe not perfect.

The XFC criteria is defined. You do the required manuevers as they are written. You do all of the maneuvers presented in their best orientation. You do it in a coreographed way to the music. You change flying tempo with the music. It is not necessarily about doing collective pumps during half flips close to the ground, although that can work too.

Every pilot there is a very good pilot. Some of the best pilots in the country (world?) flew there. Even the last place pilot is a heck of a good pilot. Because someone did not place as high as they thought they should does not mean they should start bad mouthing the judges. Poor sportsmanship I think.

My apologies to you Dorfmann.

Chopper.. Nice defense! (but last was not from ohio..... )

dorfmann... Nice follow up!

abrajim.... That head button is part of the new head block that will be released soon from TT. Not sure what you mean by head lock though.

Now... my take of the XFC....

WOW, what an overwhelming experiance! Great people, great fun, and made many great new friends.

For judging, I must say, that I did see some areas that I also questioned about judging, but they were very un biased with the matter of who was the pilot.... But isn't that the case with every type of event that includes judges!

Chopper has been a contest pilot for many many .... er many ( ) years and truely knows what the judges are looking for. Marcus was more enjoyable to watch from a spectator point, with all the low low ground work, but the wow factor did not score high on points. Do I agree? well........ I have talked with some of the event corodinators since the event and they will be making it better in the future.... They say to entertain the crowd, cuz the crowd is the generation for the prize pot! I think that some of the judging criteria will be a little diffrent for next year.

Never the less the top guys finished exactly in the position I think they deserved....

1st - Curtis smoked this event!!! WOW! Dude, you have once again taken back the title as "3D Master!" with a vengance!

2nd - Alan, your style is truly destinctive and a trademark to you, Congrats on a well deserving 2nd place finish, good luck at the nats, and cant wait to fly with you again at IRCHA.

3rd - Pete, the hard work has paid off! Now will you listen to me when I tell you that your flying is kicking ass, and stop saying you suck... FF time, lets have some fun now buddy!

4th - Mark Fadley, Display of smooth style, and some zippy action in the mix! Congrats on a well deserved finish! "Let me tell ya what I am working on now...."

5th - Jammin' J-Rock Jim Stark, BIG, FAST, and SMOOTH... Yea baby, Lookin forward to more FF events flying with you this year!

-----

Also I have to make mention of 8th place Mike Trueblood. Man, where did you come from here? Another style to call you own! Smooth on the deck 3D! Great control and no nervous thumbs there! Job well done for you first event like that.

Matt Botos, It was fun to get together last week in Akron Ohio's Smack Down event! No nervous thumbs there, and we were able to really get out and have some fun! Killer flying - Redemption next year for sure!

Just some of my thoughts, dont read too far into it all....
Jeff Swartz

PS: I never hesitate to reply to a post.... I just seem to jump right into the mix..... hehe

Chopper

Response appreciated.

Hitch

I want to reiterate (sp?) that Marcus has nothing to do with the judging talk. The two things were just written in the same thread. He is a very modest and noble pilot and would not be apart of or, I'm sure, not appreciate being linked to such gossip. I'm sure that wasn't anyone's intention, but I just wanted to make that perfectly understood.

I was not refering to Marcus in any other way that compairing the two distintive flying styles of him and chopper because they were both just menioned in these previous threads. It was a pleasure to meet and talk with him and all the other top notch pilots! Made alot of new friends there!

There was also another pilot that crashed in both of his known routines, one in the middle of the flight, and one doing an auto at the end, and yet still placed quite well.

I am sure that the gossip about judging is really not coming from any of the competeing pilots anyway.

Cant wait till next year!

"Marcus was more enjoyable to watch from a spectator point, with all the low low ground work, but the wow factor did not score high on points"

I agree 100% with that statement. But it all has to be combined to the music and add the compulsory manuevers which were scored heavily in the final outcome. I overheard that with Marcus school commitments, it was hard for him to find enough time to practice for the XFC. Watch out folks, soon enough, hes going to be knocking at that podium along with Mike Trueblood.
To all: Make a point to attend the show next year, you will not regret it.

Is it just me, or does this thing look like a Fury?

The Fury-ette

Not ripping. Just a joke. No kidding though! The canopy looks like a hacked off Extreme! Looks nice, though. Can't wait to see one. Are they out, yet?

Yeah I agree, as a proud Vigor owner, I hope this isn't the finished design for the new Vigor. Looks so much like a Fury it's not funny.

Maybe the new Vigor should be called the Furor?
