My Posts This: Topic Forum | Super Scale resultsWe had a GREAT turnout for the Super-Scale event this year, Five new models were entered and there were a few others that SHOULD have entered, but didn't for one reason or another. To address a few of the questions that have been asked in this thread:
The three judges were Jim Davey, Jon Tanner and Paul Scott (me).
The scoring awarded one-third of the points for Static and two-thirds Flying. This split is a little bit historical because we don't have a "Builder-of-the-model" rule at Circumgyration. We want to encourage FLYING of these beauties, not pretty paper-weights. 
Dr.Tim's Cobra ranked very high on static. That's a fantastic machine. The others were pretty impressive too. Remember that in Static, its "fidelity to documentation" that counts. (If you have the MOST FANTASTIC cockpit and it doesn't match your doc photo, it might score ZERO.)
We had a bonus of 50 flight-points for Helis with fly-barless heads This gave three of the models a big head-start .
We also had a 25 point bonus for "Autorotation from altitude" that could be included as one of the seven elective flight maneuvers. The two pilots flying fly-barred heads elected to take advantage of that and significantly raised their scores.
The manditory maneuvers were 1) a 10 second hover and clearing turns, 2) a 45 degree climbout to 30 feet, 3) a 45 degree approach from 30 feet and traslational landing.
We flew three rounds and discarded the score of the lowest scoring round. Some of the pilots didn't fly all three for various reasons.
When the final STATIC and FLIGHT scores were talleyed, only ONE point seperated FIRST from SECOND and only 13 points (out of over 700) separated FIRST from THIRD.
As Mark's photos show, we had a blast and plan to have a bigger one next year.
