I got mine, but I was thinking:

-Its heavy, it won't do 3d or even airobatic
-its expensive, 300 euro for an average crash

Could you give me a reason to keep it when I mastered hovering?

skyfox

no good reason for you to keep it, the Skyfox here in the US with a Webra 61 will loop, roll, and 3D very well with a total weight of 10.0 lbs. its limits are the pilot.

Sometimes I wonder that my self

I have a couple of varios. The first crash I had was do to a gearing stripping out. I was told I had to grease it when I built it. But the instructions didn't say anything about greasing it. It was a metal to plastic arrangement. When i called vario, the first question they asked me is, did I grease it when I built it, I told them I didn't know. I told them if the insturctions told me to grease then I did. I told them I will have to check. I checked the chopper, no grease, I checked the instructions over and over and over, the directions did not say anything about greasing that gear. I had other people check the instructions, no one else could find where it said to grease it either. I called vario, and went over the instructions with them page by page, word by word -- hum... they could find it either! There comment was, oh, we will have to contact Germany and have that fixed. What did they do for me? Charge me about $500 in repair parts!

Then I blew up a engine, I blew the skirt off the pistion. I didn't know why, sent it back to the engine manufacture. They told me that I must have had the wrong tuned pipe on it. Well, I had a 61 size engine in chopper with a turned pipe. I put the 70 size engine in it, called vario after I bought the bigger engine from them, and asked them if I can use the same pipe from the 61 without any problems. They said sure you can, no problem. Hum... bit again!

Typo fix for previous post

I stated that vario could find the greasing issue in the book, I should say they couldn't find the greasing issue in the book they said was there.

Another comment..
Look through the Hirobo section of this forum. Look at the positive comments in there about the products and most of all the customer service!!!!!!!!!

Vario will never come close to it!

Why would you buy such an expensive heli if you can't even hover?!?

I have 2 Kobold/Skyfox mixes and love the way they are designed. I have always had Raptors and others but these models are great for my scale projects. Just depends what you want to do with the heli. If you want to do 3d do Raptors or others, if you want scale, you have to wait like the rest. I don't mind, I know what I'm getting into and if I can't find what I want through one dealer I'll find the part from another dealer or some private seller. That's part of the hobby. I used to be pissed off about parts, but am able to find what I need through members of runryder. If you don't want what you have let me know, I could always use spares...

No insult or otherways intentended, it's just a hobby...

Craig

I hate when that happens

ok, I bought it because it was a nice deal. Only gyro and receiver needed. At that time I didn't know about the crashcost. Hopefully I can buy another heli soon, and I'll rethink about selling this one.

When I had a SkyFox, I bought it because here in my part of Europe, it was cheaper than a Raptor 60. It now lives in Australia!

All my metal to plastic gearing arrangements run great, no grease required. Robbe SE, Sceadu, Fury, X-Cell SE, even the Hawk Sport. Seems a bit odd that Vario would want you to. Doesn't have anything to do with common sense. It has to do with Vario specifics, which seasoned pilots learn, and new pilots either pick up or suffer through.

Thanks, John Cadwell

Grease on gears....

Over the years i have build a few Sky Fox models, lately the X-Treme and now the Acrobatic, Gasser and the Alouette II Gasser.
Never ever have i seen in the instructions to put grease on metal to plastic gears and i never had problems with that.
On the Benzine mechanics the plastic to plastic bevel graers to the tail rotor drive require grease and of course the metal gears inside the tail gearbox. Thats all there is to it.....

Heli_Jack ?

Heli_Jack you said

"Chopperman,
So, you assume gears run dry just fine? Not too mechanically inclined are you? Common sense goes a long way in this hobby."

???

I am confused? I didn't assume anything. I followed the directions to the "T"! I have probably built 15 to 20 heli's before the vario. Not one of them use grease in this area that I had a problem. I have never grease the main gear to pinion gear on any heli I ever built... and never had a problem. So after the previous experiences, and following the instructions to the "T", I don't understand how you thing I was assuming?
Wait, now that I am thinking about it, I did assume that vario wouldn't be different then others. This happened on the 20th flight of a new chopper, there is no adjustment for gear lash and there is only one way to put it together. On top of that, the chopper was babied, I was about my 10th loop with it when it stripped out in flight running the head speeds that they suggest.

And on top of all that, I check with the other guys at the field that have vario's, they don't have grease either! I am kind of thinking that it was excuse by vario to say I screwed up.

???

?????

evolution s .grease in the gear box and tail rotor gear box
no greas on main gear to engine as as instruction and experience.
8 gals now and no prob.

skyfox in the tiger same as above.

xtreme 3d grease in tail rotor gear box no greas on bevel durling gears
going to the tail rotor as per instructions unless i realy mised something.the same for the main gear.

experience and known fact for the main gear or exposed gears
the greas on these would only atract sand and particles that would
grind the gear to death plus it wouls just fly off annyways.

???

if i am totaly wrong on this then please someone clear this up
before i lose a heli due to this grease thingy.

steff

I agree

Heli_Jack is the guy that implies that these gears need to be grease.

As he stated that I am not to mechanically inclined so maybe I am not the one to make an opinion. (on by the way, I better get out of my line of work then to)

how old is your manual

I had the problem three yrs ago. They were going to change it after I brought to there attention. Please do sent the picutures. I guess I am more bashing the customer support. The chopper it self is nice quility heli (cant spell some days). It was the fluffed off and the wrong answers I got over the past couple of years and the lack of response, and the waiting months for the parts and on on on...... I only told a little of the story here. When they agreed that the lubing wasn't in the manual that I had and that it was there fault, I figured they would make good on it, the funny thing is they told me that they would do something for me on pricing. The only thing they did was charge me full retail. there is alot more to story that made me come to the conclusion of what I have about vario support. I give people many chances! MANY, it wasn't a five minute conclusion.

Food For Thought

Hey Chopper Man100

Have you ever tried dealing with a different VARIO Helicopter dealer? You seem to be bashing pretty hard. There ae several sources for VARIO Heli's. If you don't like the support you are getting, try someplace else. DUH........

All that effort you put into typing those bashing words? Wouldn't looking up a different phone number be much easier. You will probably get better results then your efforts here on open forum.

Hi everyone. I would like to jump on the bashing bandwagon too. Vario does suck. Rediculous prices coupled with piss poor support make for a less than desirable experience. Nicely engineered, but not woth the hassel.
