IC-R2 - Compact Handheld Receiver
| Listen To Your Frequency |
| First listen to your channel number (all quiet). Then turn on your radio and get audio confirmation that you are in fact transmitting on the proper channel number. At the field (when your transmitter is off) you listen for stray signals and or people flying without a flag. The unit comes with a charger and nicad batteries also. |
| With my import script only our RC channels (11-60) show when you turn the dial. Downloading the scrip file makes programing very easy. Another option to programming the unit your self would be to have the dealer take my script and do it for you. |

| flyingryno Heliman | Fantastic! I bought the IC-R2 about 8 months ago and was impressed with all of the functionality but found it useless and now I know why. I went to the site (Lentini) mentioned in this thread but found no info regarding the most important piece of the IC-R2 (cable and software) . They should really include this with the equipment. If you could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful. | ||

| alfred Veteran | I looked into the unit as the idea is great but after an inquiry I found out that I can't get them for the Australian frequency bands.

| Greg Richard Heliman | If you have a ham licence you can get the 2 meter- 440 version.

| freestyle Veteran | other ham stuff I bought an IC-T81A, thinking I'd use it for both ham stuff and as an RC scanner. But, it turns out that the newer T81A cannot be set to receive our 72mhz band likes the old ones can. If anyone is thinking of buying a T81A with this purpose in mind, don't. It's a nice handheld though, so I'm keeping it anyhow.
But... I have read that if you program an older IC-T81A to receive 'extended' frequencies, you can load that file into a newer T81A. If anyone has an older T81A that has RC frequencies programmed into it, please contact me, I'd like to try to turn mine into an RC scanner as well.
Thanks. | ||

| ColeopTer Elite Veteran | ok so how do you use it now? OK Mark, I bought the receiver, got the software and uploaded your script into the receiver. Now how are you supposed to use your script programmed receiver? Yes I didn't read the instructions nor I'm inclined to. I just want to know what buttons to press to get the receiver to scan and tell me who is out there with my frequency. Today I was supervising a setup of Agilent RF test equipment and my brain is fried from reading hundreds of pages of manuals. Augusto Avant Aurora Ultimate | ||

| ColeopTer Elite Veteran | I figured out what the problem was. After I loaded the script into the receiver the unit seemed to be locked out. I did a partial reset by turning it on while keeping the Func and VM buttons pressed and it restarted the unit. Now the scan function works perfectly. Thanks for the script Mark it works like a charm! | Chris.C Veteran | I know the feature is already in my Tx but by the time you know it, your chopper already on its way down. Hopefully not hitting anybody! It is very fortunate to have a wide area to fly without caring to check the frequency board. We do not have that luxury in HK except to cross the border to fly. So we have to be very careful about the frequency. Anyway, the reason I asked the question is that I seen it somewhere in a Japanese magazine that a receiver can monitor someone else switch on the frequency that you are using. But that one is to use with a portable PC. I don't know if there is any handheld receiver that has this feature. I got a Yaesu VX500 that hasnot. Any idea? Cheers Chris | ||

| donlynn Key Veteran | Gidday Chris
If I consider a risk I would use the scanner before switching on also to see if anyone is operating a close freq, I did this a couple of times before I decided I was waisting valuable flying time

| MPA Elite Veteran | No you need to run the scanner at all times you are not flying, from the time you get in the car to leave up to the time you packup to stop flying.
You want to be aware of where there may be RC activity at some time on a given day you are out.
It may not be on your channel but more than 1 channel found should tell you to potentiallty expect more as there is more than one person nearby and perhaps a gathering.
That is why you scan ALL rc flying channels NOT just the one you operate on, that would be a grave mistake.
If you always have it on you get a picture of where others are around you operating which helps you put yourself where they are not with a degree of precision not guess work.
Always have the scanner on when not flying, always scan all rc flying channels.
If you fly at a club the scanner wouldnt be of much use to you but its a must for lone flying. | ||

| Mark Ryder Administrator | I have not dealt with this for over two years and do not remember any programming details. One question, did you unzip (extract) the file “markicr2.icf” from “markicr2.zip” first?Mark | ||
